What City and State do you live in? Linville, North Carolina
How many newfoundlands do you currently live with? Three. Truman our brown Newf, is approximately 10 years old. Kizzy is 4 and Birdie is 1.
Do you have other breeds? No
Do you have other creatures? No
Are you an active breeder? No
What attracted you to the newfoundland breed? Their sweet disposition and love of water. Plus they are just so incredibly beautiful.
What areas of sport/competition interest you? Conformation, but I leave that mostly to the professionals! Draft work, water work, tricks, rally, and obedience. Would love to try scent work if we can ever get in a class!
Do you handle your own dog? Never
Have you earned titles with your dog/s? Tell us about them? Kizzy has been our first show and working dog. It has been so much fun learning and experiencing all the new skills and events. We sure know a lot more now than we did 4 years ago! We’re very thankful to all the Newf people out there for helping us during our journey by sharing knowledge, training with us and cheering us on! As the saying goes…it takes a village!
Do you remember the first time you met a newfoundland? My grandparents had Newfs when I was growing up and those 2 dogs went everywhere with them. We have some old 8mm film of the dogs on the boat and getting into mischief. They were always the highlight of any trip!
Do you allow your dogs on your bed or furniture? The Newfs have mostly never expressed an interest getting on furniture as they love the cold tile floors, but every once in awhile Kizzy will sneak up on a couch or bed to get some extra attention.
Do you groom your own dog? Yes
How to often do you trim your dog's nails? Do you or someone else trim the nails and how do they do it? I dremel their nails either weekly or every other week. Teaching the girls has required a lot of patience
Tell us something cute or sweet that your newf does? Truman puts his paw in his mouth sometimes when he is napping. Such a cutie bear!
Kizzy likes to nibble people’s chins and Birdie will place her paw on you or just get up in your lap if she can.
How has the newfoundland dog impacted your life? Do you have a fond memory that you would like to share? I have so many memories of meeting folks and telling them about Newfs. You become such an ambassador for the breed….what a joy to share how amazing Newfs are and their history.
Newfs have brought many incredible people into our lives, From the shows we have been to as well as the tests and trials it is has been wonderful to meet all those who love and cherish this breed.
I remember when I went to get my first Newfoundland. I was unbelievably excited but nervous. We hadn’t had a Newf in my larger family for a long time. I had never had one of my own. The breeder brought in the mother so I could meet her and I had forgotten how big they were Her name was Mama Mia and her presence was magical. I got teary eyed just watching her. She was the most beautiful creature. Baloo was one of her pups and he became my first Newf. Loved him to the moon and back. How lucky are we to be in their lives?
Tell us your biggest Newfoundland brag? That 5 Newfoundlands have graced my life and loved me ❤️
