How many newfoundlands do you currently live with? Two. 2 year old Caia (Landseer female) and 8 month old Seamus.
Do you have other breeds? Tell us about them? Not currenly, although I've rescued Mastiffs, Saints, Berners, a Great Pyr and several other Newfies.
Do you have other creatures? Two cats
Are you an active breeder? No
What attracted you to the newfoundland breed? Their sweet disposition and goofy personalities.
What areas of sport/competition interest you? (Conformation, Draft, Water Rescue, Therapy, Rally, Obedience, other)? Therapy (Caia and I are a certified team). I'd love to get into water rescue.
Do you handle your own dog? Always
Have you earned titles with your dog/s? Tell us about them? CGC
Do you allow your dogs on your bed or furniture? Yes to both
Do you groom your own dog? No
How to often do you trim your dog's nails? Do you or someone else trim the nails and how do they do it? I trim Caia's every 5-6 weeks. Seamus is a squirmer so the vet gets to do his!
Tell us something cute or sweet that your newf does? Seamus carries around his 2-foot long Lambchop stuffie when he's tired. Just like a human toddler (except that he's already 80 pounds at 8 months!)
How has the newfoundland dog impacted your life? Do you have a fond memory that you would like to share? Every day with these two is a day that's better for having Newfies in it. Some of my favorite recent memories are of Caia interacting with the residents of the Assisted Living and Memory Care homes we visit with Alliance of Therapy Dogs. She brings such smiles to everyone's faces!
