You are invited to be part of a meaningful tribute honoring the life and legacy of Patti Sutherland and the Hudson Ambassador Program—a program that changed lives through compassion, mentorship, and the extraordinary partnership between people and Newfoundland dogs.
Patti believed deeply in the healing power of connection. Through the Hudson Ambassador Program, Newfoundland dogs worked alongside dedicated mentors to support and guide high school students facing many challenges, offering stability, confidence, and unconditional acceptance at moments when it mattered most. For many young individuals, this program was a turning point—one that helped them see their own worth and potential.
To honor Patti’s lasting impact and preserve the spirit of this remarkable work, we are returning to the high school where it all began – the Charles D. Owen High School in Black Mountain, NC.
The goal is to raise $2500. Funds raised will be used for a permanent wall hanging in the school, recognizing Patti Sutherland and the Hudson Ambassador Program, ensuring their legacy is remembered and shared. This will be installed on the wall where there is a large portrait of Hudson, the Newfoundland that started it all. The wall hanging will contain several photos of Patti, the Hudson Ambassador Club and the dogs. We are working on gathering some photos to be included. There will also be text detailing the program and the work of Patti with the Hudson Ambassadors. These items will be embedded in fiberglass making it a lasting memorial that can easily be maintained by the school. There will be a ribbon cutting and dedication at the high school in a few months and all are welcome.
Every contribution, no matter the size, will help bring this vision to life. More importantly, your support will help honor a woman and a program that devoted themselves to lifting others during their most vulnerable moments. This is not a tremendously expensive project.
If you can contribute, we would be deeply grateful. Your generosity will help ensure that Patti’s compassion and the mission of the Hudson Ambassador Program continue to inspire healing, connection, and kindness. Details on donating are included at the end of this letter. Any monies collected beyond the cost of the signage will be used for the dedication ceremony and to make a monetary donation to the school for the student activities fund.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to honor a truly special legacy. Please feel free to share this letter with others who may wish to support this memorial.
With heartfelt appreciation,
Mary Bylone
Details for donating:
I will be collecting the money and paying the vendor as well as covering the costs of the refreshments for the dedication and any donation to be made to the school. The monies given to the school will be noted to be from “Friends of Patti Sutherland.”
You can send your donation to me using any of the following methods:
· Venmo to @Mary-Bylone
· PayPal to @MaryBylone
· Check made out to Mary Bylone, mailed to 165 Shadbush Dr, Colchester, CT 06415
I will keep a running spreadsheet with all donations and expenditures, and I am happy to share it with anyone who would like to see it. I looked at a few options for other ways of collecting the money, but they did not work out and for this smaller project, this seemed to make the most sense. I hope you will trust me and make a small donation through one of the options listed above.
Thank you for your support of this project.
